Stoke-on-Trent: February 5 2016: is pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive new website designed to help protect world travellers and keep them safe from fraudsters hucksters and shysters. The site is a practical resource offering real world advice and features 80 of the most widespread travel scams currently active provides details on how the scams are perpetrated and offers ratings into their likely damage frequency and geographical scope.

Like an elephant a scam is difficult to define but most people know it when they see it or worse when they experience it. A scam is roughly a transaction in which one party tries to get an advantage over the other to which he or she is not entitled.  There are therefore two elements to a scam a transaction and some form of unfair advantage gained on one side of that transaction.  This can be achieved by charging more for goods or services than is merited at one end of the spectrum or by gassing and robbing the party at the other end.  Scams can be illegal but do not have to be. Some of the scams detailed are not only legal but compulsory – exit taxes and visa fees being obvious examples.

Example travel scams include: Taxi Mafia Currency Exchange International Driving License Visa-Related and Admission Rip-offs.

Where possible personal examples of scams are given whilst others are from newspapers government websites or web forums.  Where personal experience is lacking independent confirmation has been sought either from another publicly available source or the original victim. The naming of individual scammers has been avoided except where they have been convicted in court because the purpose of the site is to alert travellers to tricks and traps which can ruin their holiday rather than to name to individual people whom tourists should avoid.

The Travel Scams Uncovered website is divided into 10 sections.
