Doha to host 15th International MEEA Conference from March 23 to 25

Doha: Doha Institute for Graduate Studies will host the 15th International Conference for the Middle East Economists Association (MEEA) from March 23 to 25.

To be held under the theme ‘The Impact of Oil Price Chances on the Economic Growth and Development in the MENA Countries’ the forum is expected to attract over 200 international delegates including economists academic researchers and PhD students.

Organisers have accepted 112 abstracts out of 134 submissions from various countries.

Dr Hassan Aly Dean School of Public Administration and Development Economic at the institute said: “There has been a significant increase in the numbers of abstracts received conference participants and the countries they represent.

“We are looking forward to hosting around 200 participants from over 30 countries.

“This will be the first time we will have delegates from countries such as Indonesia South Korea Cyprus and Malaysia.”

Several high-profile economists have confirmed attendance including keynote speaker Professor James Robinson from Harvard University who authored the best-seller Why Nations Fail.

Another prominent speaker is Shantaynan Devarajan Chief Economist World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa Region.

This will be the first international conference hosted and organised by the institute. Previous MEEA conference took place in cities such as Tunis Dubai Istanbul and Alexandria.
