Samsung's Tizen snatches 4th place in ecosystems war

(MENAFN) Samsung Electronics Co.'s Tizen operating system reserved its rank as the 4th most-used smartphone platform globally throughout the three months to December of the previous year.

Jumping sharply from 200,000 units reported in the first quarter, the number of Tizen-powered smartphones sold around the globe reached 900,000 units in the October-December timeframe.

Tizen seized the 4th spot after beating the Blackberry OS for the first time a quarter earlier, and given Samsung's and well-established distribution channel in India, the OS is expected to grow further.

In 2015, Google's Android and Apple's iOS platforms conquered the market with a combined market share of 96.3 percent, while Microsoft obtained the third spot with its Windows Mobile platform.
