(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Feb. 4 (Petra)--Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Thursday met with the Joint Jordanian-Turkish Business Council that comprises the Jordanian Businessmen Association and the Turkish Economic and Foreign Relations Council .
At the meeting which was attended by the ministers of water and irrigation energy and mineral resources trade industry and supply transport and president of the Jordan Businessmen Association Ensour highlighted the need to further boost Jordanian-Turkish ties. "The Jordanian and Turkish governments are working under the directives of the two countries' leaderships to meet and encourage the private sector from both countries to seize the available opportunities to cooperate namely in the economic field" he added.
The prime minister said that challenges facing the region should prompt both countries to enhance bilateral ties adding that Jordan's exports to Turkey have been affected as they go through land while the Kingdom's imports from Turkey are less affected as they come through air and sea.
"Jordan thanks to its location in the Middle East could be a center for Turkish exports to Arab countries" Ensour said adding that both countries could also cooperate in organizing pilgrimage tours to Saudi Arabia.
The prime minister said he was looking forward to the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to Jordan to discuss Jordanian-Turkish ties as well as developments in the region.
Head and members of the delegation stressed the importance attached by the Turkish government to relations with Jordan and pointed to opportunities available for both sides to cooperate in the fields of investment energy water and transport fields.
They said both sides should consider establishing a direct air route between Turkey and the Port city of Aqaba as well as a maritime line between ?skenderun in Turkey and Aqaba.
