Jordan- King takes part in London donors conference

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) London Feb. 4 (Petra) -- The London donor conference opened on Thursday in the presence of His Majesty King Abdullah II and leaders and representatives of 70 countries and organizations with a major focus on assisting those affected by the Syrian crisis including host countries.

The King is expected to deliver a speech during the opening session of the conference which will tackle measures to support countries hosting the Syrian refugees including Jordan which bear the burdens of providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the refugees.

The Kingdom hosts 1.3 million Syrian refugees with only 10 per cent of them residing in camps prepared for them. This puts enormous strain on Jordan's infrastructure health education water and energy sectors.

The one-day conference dubbed "Supporting Syria and the Region" is organized by UK Germany Norway Kuwait and the United Nations. It will discuss the world's largest humanitarian crisis which requires planning that goes beyond providing funds to seriously thinking of the reconstruction process.

The British government yesterday pledged $1.74 billion by 2020 for Syrians affected by the conflict in their country.
