QU workshop discusses main challenges in traffic, road safety


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Qatar Road Safety Studies Centre (QRSSC) at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) held a workshop to discuss the main challenges in traffic and road safety, under the heading "Traffic Safety".
Organised in conjunction with Qatar Society of Engineers and the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the forum brought together over 50 experts and engineers from local and international institutions to discuss and find efficient solutions for road and traffic safety
challenges in Qatar.
Attendees included Brigadier Mohamed al-Malki, general secretary, National Committee for Traffic Safety; and Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, director, QRSSC, as well as representatives of the Traffic Department and QU
faculty and staff.
The programme included presentations by Dr Wael Alhajyaseen, assistant research professor at5 QRSSC; Samira Omer Mohammed, research assistant; and Dr Mohammed Ghanim, CENG civil engineering assistant professor. They addressed topics on "Road Safety Engineering", "Road Safety Audit in Qatar", and "Real Time Traffic Signal Control".
Brigadier al-Malki said: "Road safety is a crucial area of interest in Qatar that requires careful planning and long-term focus. This can be realised through research and case studies in collaboration with government and private organisations. QRSSC is a leading centre in Qatar that contributes to advancing a culture of traffic safety within the community and providing decision- and policy-makers with sustainable solutions."
Dr al-Khalifa said: "It is part of a series of forums that bring together key partners to advance dialogue on road and traffic safety strategies that are responsive to national priorities and challenges. It also reflects the centre's mission to highlight ongoing developments in the country's road transportation system as well as to promote community awareness on the need to decrease accidents."
