Uber adds Sri Lanka to its trophies shelf

(MENAFN) Uber, the controversial American international transportation network company has launched in Asian Sri Lanka, a country mainly dominated by three-wheeler auto rickshaws, according to the latest reports.

Additionally, the firm which develops and operates the Uber mobile app is aiming at grabbing a large share of the taxi market in a nation where 20 percent of the 21 million-population owns smartphones.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka is the newest Asian country targeted by Uber, which already operates in 22 cities in massive neighbor India and has been investing big cash in China to make inroads there.

It has become one of the admitted facts about the firm that its legality has been challenged by governments and taxi companies, who allege that its use of drivers who are not licensed to drive taxicabs is illegal.
