Qatargas Safety Record Wins Shell Award

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatargas has received an industry award in recognition of its safety record, the world's largest (Liquefied Natural Gas) LNG producer said Wednesday.

The Qatarian company received the Shell 'Goal Zero' Award for working ten million man-hours without serious leaks or incidents. The award promotes a strong safety culture in the industry by recognizing and celebrating great safety performances.

Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, Operations, Ahmad Helal Al-Mohannadi received the award from Qatar Shell Companies Managing Director and Chairman Michiel Kool at an event held at the Qatargas Headquarters in Ras Laffan.

Commenting on the award, Al-Mohannadi said, "Our safety programme is about caring for our people. Qatargas management is fully committed to ensure safe operation and to provide a safe work environment for our employees and contractors. This achievement is the result of our belief in the Incident and Injury Free culture which is integrated in all our activities." Qatargas Chief Safety, Environment and Quality Officer Randy Lee Stadler said, "We in Qatargas believe safety is not a mere collection of policies and procedures. Safety is a core value that shapes our behaviours and actions, not only at work but, in everything we do each and every day. "In Qatargas no job is well done unless it is done safely. In 2015, Shell brought expertise and support to Qatargas in addressing 'Line of Fire' hazards, bringing us closer to our vision of an 'Incident and Injury Free' workplace." Michiel Kool said, "At Shell, what we call 'Goal Zero' is a deep belief that we can run our operations with no harm to people and no leaks. We are proud to be working with a partner like Qatargas that shares the same belief, making sure that Qatargas staff and contractors go back to their homes safe and sound every day.

"Shell's Goal Zero Award to Qatargas is a recognition for working with this mindset in day to day operations as demonstrated by an outstanding safety performance with Qatargas registering 10 million working hours without significant leaks or incidents. I congratulate all Qatargas management and staff as well as its partners and contractors on achieving this milestone." Set up in 1984, Qatargas' LNG production capacity is 42 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
