Japan fully on alert over possible N. Korean missile- DM

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Japan's Defense Ministry is fully on guard against a possible launch of a long-range ballistic missile by North Korea Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said Tuesday."We cannot rule out the possibility of North Korea taking provocative action without notice including the launch of a ballistic missile. In order to deal with any situation the ministry takes all possible measures for intelligence gathering and analysis as well as warning and surveillance" Nakatani told reporters. The minister also revealed that the Defense Ministry has deployed ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) interceptor units in the Tokyo metropolitan area including the ministry's headquarters to shoot down any North Korean missiles or debris threatening to fall onto Japanese territory. But he declined to disclose information on the deployment of PAC-3 units in other locations and the dispatch of Aegis destroyers equipped with Standard Missile-3 interceptor systems in the Sea of Japan and surrounding waters. There are apparent signs that North Korea may test-launch a long-range ballistic missile following its nuclear test on Jan. 6. The North last fired long-range ballistic missile in December 2012 calling it a satellite. (end) mk.tg
