Qatar- Three dealers forced to replace five defective cars with new ones

DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has forced at least three automobile dealers to replace five defective cars and provide brand new ones in their place to their woeful buyers.

The Ministry said the dealers were compelled to replace the vehicles after their service centres failed to repair recurring faults. The cars had manufacturing defects and the buyers filed complaints with the Ministry which boasts a consumer rights’ watchdog cell. Inspectors from the Ministry investigated the complaints before notifying the three car dealers of the need to replace them with new ones.

The dealers were notified in accordance with Article 10 of Law No 8 of 2008 guaranteeing consumer protection. The law clearly stipulates that consumers are entitled to choose whether to repair return or exchange defective products said a press statement issued by the Ministry yesterday.

The measures according to the Ministry come as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard consumers’ rights and ensure that auto dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs.

The Ministry has reiterated it will continue with its massive crackdown drives to ensure consumer rights’ protection and intensify inspection campaigns to fight fraud. Violators will be referred for legal action said the Ministry adding it wouldn’t spare any effort to make sure that consumers’ rights are protected at any cost.
