Nuclear committee meets to discuss Jordan's program


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Feb. 1 (Petra) -- The Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee's first meeting has started today in Amman to check on the latest developments in Jordan's upcoming nuclear program in 2022.

Former prime minster Maurouf al-Bakhit who chaired the meeting emphasized the necessity of diversifying energy resources in Jordan which faced plenty of economic challenges as a result of depending on imported energy.

He said the meeting marks the beginning of global partnership that combines a distinguished scientific expertise in the nuclear industry.

Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Khaled Toukan briefed the meeting on the nuclear program's components which comprises the nuclear power plant and Jordan's first research and training reactor.

Over four days the committee will take a closer look on what has been implemented within the nuclear program.

Moreover the committee's members will meet with senior officials to devise visions towards peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
