Kuwait- KEPS organizes bird count event


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Bird monitoring and protection team of Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) continued the process of migrating bird counting in the annual activity at this level which coincides with the great backyard bird count.KEPS' Secretary General Wijdan Al-Oqab told KUNA Monday that the team launched the annual bird counting event in Sulaibikhat coast in which they counted 3500 Flamingo birds in the area extending from the free zone until Kazma.She added that birds counting process contributes to the control and monitor of the new types of birds as well as determining the increase or decline in migrating birds numbers pointing out that excessive hunting has caused a decline in some bird species.For his part Secretary General of the team Saad Al-Nouri said that the team has been distributed in several places on Kuwait coast and began monitoring different species of sea birds that varied between Flamingo Gray Heron Great Egret and different kinds of gulls.He added that there is a correlation relationship between the increasing numbers of birds and the biological diversity as well as a safe marine environment. He also called for raising a public awareness and concern over the crucial components of migratory bird conservation.(end) zak.haq
