(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A new speaker was elected Monday to Taiwan’s legislature after a party traditionally known for its pro-independence stance on relations with Beijing won last month’s election.

He announced his resignation from all posts in the DPP after the vote saying he would also not join any party events in accordance with proposed reforms aimed at impartiality among senior lawmakers.

He underlined the public’s high expectation for the new parliament and the prioritization of reforms and “sorting out” the legislature.
