FTSE 100 ends week on a high note

The FTSE 100 enjoyed a triple-digit rise to end an indifferent week on a high note boosted by the Bank of Japan's interest rate decision.

Just three blue-chips were in the red as the Footsie charged 152 points or 2.6% higher to 6083.

The three party-spoilers were miners Glencore (LON:GLEN) Antofagasta (LON:ANTO) and BHP Billiton (LON:BLT).

Otherwise it was a happy day for most stocks after the Bank of Japan moved its key interest rate into negative territory.

The biggest mover of the day was Vitesse Media (LON:VIS) which shot up 127% to 3.125p as the non-executive chairman of the business-to-business media business Chris Ingram agreed to buy 13.890mln shares at 1.8p each.

Ingram believes the company is under-capitalised and so has stepped in to offer the company funds that can be used to grow the business.

It may not have doubled in price but Goldplat (LON:GDP) shareholders were likely very happy with the 14.3% rise after the South Africa and Ghana-focused mine developer completed a JORC-compliant resource statement for the tailings storage facility at its gold recovery operations in South Africa.

The consultant estimated a total of 81959 ounces of gold 216094 ounces of silver and 193276 pounds of uranium oxide.

Learning Technologies (LON:LTG) up 14.1% was another strong riser as it unveiled a major acquisition.

It is to acquire Rustici Software LLC a software specialist for US$26mln and it has also agreed to invest US$3mln to gain a 30% stake in a company called Watershed Systems which has developed learning analytics systems.

The deals will be paid for in cash and shares and the company says they will be immediately and significantly earnings enhancing in 2016 and beyond.
