Discover America in Doha: US to parade best products and services

DOHA: American products and services will be showcased during the second annual “Discover America Week Qatar 2016” from February 15 to February 22.

The event being organised by the US Embassy in association with the American Chamber of Commerce celebrates US-Qatar partnership.

The week is aimed at bringing a little bit of America to Qatar.

Activities will include a forum for business leaders interested in doing business in the US a special American film Showcase an American Sports Day and exhibits of leading American fashion designers food and education opportunities.

US Ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith hailed the week as a celebration of ties that bind the two countries.

“This week will showcase the very best of American ingenuity products services and culture. The US and Qatar have a strong partnership that saw several milestones in 2015 and we are pleased to begin 2016 with a celebration of our ties” said Smith.

Robert Hager Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Qatar said: “We are delighted that the US Embassy and our commercial partners have come together with us to present the second Discover America Week to Qatar. Commercial ties between two countries have never been stronger and we are working alongside our Qatari counterparts to expand those ties” added Hager. A special edition of AmCham Qatar’s Distinguished Speaker Series on February 17 will hold a panel discussion on the upcoming US presidential elections. A half-day forum — ‘Doing Business in the US’ — on February 18 will give information to firms looking to invest in the US or expand there.

Experts with insights into the US economy will address real estate opportunities and investments on February 19.

During the Week the US embassy will inaugurate the American Film Showcase. Sundance Film Festival Award-winning documentarian Michael Rossato-Bennett and Academy award-nominated film producer Alix Madigan will conduct screenings and master classes in Doha from February 18 to 22.

The programme will kick off with a screening of Rossato-Bennetts film Alive Inside presented in partnership with the Doha Film Institute at the Museum of Islamic Art. In the following days Rossato-Bennett and Madigan will conduct lectures and classes for those interested in filmmaking in partnership with several local organizations.

AmCham will host an American Sports and Family Fun Day on February 19 and the Sixth Annual Golf Tournament will take place on February 22 at the Doha Golf Club. Chevrolet will also be hosting a day of test driving and family activities at the Qatar Racing Club among other activities. All week long the US embassy will be hosting a booth in Ezdan Mall outside of Carrefour where visitors can learn about studying in the US American tourism and pick up a schedule of events for Discover America Week.

On February 21 representatives from the International Student Network will host a college fair in the lower level of Ezdan Mall where representatives from 18 American universities will be available to discuss their school programs. The fair is free and open to the public.
