Al Attiyah eyes yet another title in Doha

Doha: Two-time Dakar Rally champion Nasser bin Saleh Al Attiyah is aiming to win yet another Qatar International Rally title.

The ace driver having won in 2013 2014 and 2015 want to clinch the title for the fourth successive year and begin the Middle East Racing Championship (MERC) on a wining note.

The three-day event will be held from February 4.

“I will do my best to win the title as it will be the a good start to this season Middle East championship” said Al Attiyah.

The Qatar race will kick start this season’s FIA MERC.

Besides Qatar the other six stops of the MERC are: Kuwait International Rally from March 24 to 26 Jordan International Rally from May 5 to 7 Lebanon International Rally of September 2 to 4 Cyprus International Rally from October 7-9 Oman International Rally from November 3 to 5 and Dubai International Rally from November 17 to 19.

Al Attiyah said that each round of the Qatar Rally has its own challenges and they should be handled according to a well studied plan.

“Geographical diversity is the most important feature of this championship which attracts a large number of the participants from Europe” added Al Attiyah who is also a ace shooter and has won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Al Attiyah leads a pack of ace drivers at the event organised by Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation (QMMF).

This year’s extravaganza has attracted 15 drivers from Sweden and Italy set to give a renewed flavour to the event. Drivers from Kuwait Lebanon Jordan and Turkey will showcase their skills and will attempt to challenge Al Attiyah’s dominance on home soil.
