Netherlands set to strike Daesh in Syria

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Netherlands on Friday announced extending air strikes against Daesh to Syria.

A year after it first targeted the extremist group in Iraq Prime Minister Mark Rutte said a squadron of F-16 fighter jets in the region would soon join the U.S.-led coalition in Syria.

Assistance to the Iraqi military and Kurdish Peshmerga forces would continue he added.

The move comes days after the coalition government’s Labour Party partner agreed to Dutch warplanes participating in Syria.

The Netherlands sent aircraft and around 200 troops to Jordan in January last year. Dutch forces are also training and arming Peshmerga forces in Iraq.
