Hope in Utahs Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Landscape

At Elite Rehab Placement we pride ourselves on taking as much stress as possible out of the rehab process. It's hard work to call several different rehab centers and listen to their sales team tell you why they are the best possible option for you. We've already done all of the research and work with several high quality centers all over the nation that we are intimately familiar with.

Utah has one of the nation's top ten highest mortality rates associated with drug overdose.

In 2014 a total of 603 Utah residents died because of drug overdose for an age adjusted mortality rate of 22.4 per 100000 population. In 2013 the mortality rate was slightly lower at 22.1 per 100000 with total number of drug overdose related deaths at 594. A recent report said that around 21 Utahns die because of drug overdose attributed to prescription drugs.

Utah's drug treatment landscape while numerically small fared a lot better than some states in the nation. Around 0.49 percent of the total population of the state has sought addiction treatment in 2013. However a closer inspection of the data reveals that Utah's treatment admissions is not really that good. Instead of a steadily increasing number of drug addiction treatment admissions there is a general decline or about 8 percent from its 2012 data and a 5 percent decline from 2008. Prescription opioid painkiller addiction accounted for only 6 percent of all treatment admissions. Methamphetamine and marijuana accounted for close to 40 percent of all treatment admissions while around 15 percent had heroin addictions.

The state's treatment admission rates need to be further improved. Even though Utah's treatment admission rates are higher than some states it still lags behind the national average. And with a steadily declining treatment admissions Utah's drug rehab centers need to think of more innovative ways to arrest this decline and restart its climb. However like other states encouraging drug dependents might be a little bit difficult especially among the young adult population. Majority of an addiction center establishment's patients belong to the 12 to 17 year old age group. There simply is too few of individuals in the 21-above age group who ever seek treatment or rehabilitation for their drug addiction. It is generally believed that this segment of the population are in the productive group; hence they cannot afford to lose their jobs in order to take the required rehabilitation program for drug addiction. This is where drug rehab officials will have to work on particularly employers who may have problematic employees in their roster.

Additionally Utah's drug rehabilitation facilities need to focus on improving their treatment facilities. Successful drug addiction rehabilitees can become the ambassadors of these treatment centers if their overall experience was more than satisfactory and truly pleasing. It is believed that if rehabilitees were able to gain a very favorable and pleasant experience from the drug treatment and rehabilitation center they can share these experiences with addiction social support groups. Additionally drug rehabilitees can be invited by schools as resource persons for their drug addiction education programs for kids. This can be very helpful in explaining to young members of the population the many dangers of using illicit drugs.

Utah has some of the nation's best drug rehabilitation experts. It would be a major blow to the state if they cannot harness the professional competencies and unparalleled dedication of drug treatment and rehabilitation professionals.
