The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court has found a husband guilty of hacking his wife to death with a meat cleaver and sentenced him to death.

The capital punishment is the second against the convict by the same court 'before another bench of judges despite a waiver he obtained from his children. The court said the convict A.G. had planned and committed his crime in a deceptive way when his children were outdoor and he was alone with the victim S.A.H.

Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi Director-General of the police operations RAK Police said the son of the deceased alerted the police after he found his mother's body lying in a pool of blood.

Initial investigations revealed that a violent fight occurred between the husband and wife as broken items were strewn everywhere in their room. The victim was savagely stabbed and many deep cuts were found all over her body. The knife and a big cleaver used in the crime were found at the scene.

The victim's children including the two daughters who were in their evening school were comforted and given special care. "Another family who were very close to the deceased was also contacted and asked to look after them under police supervision" he said.

Brig Hadidi said when investigations tightened the siege around the killer he surrendered at a police station in Abu Dhabi.

"He said he took advantage of the fact that his son was away at work and the other two daughters were at school and stabbed his wife to death because of their seven-year-long never-ending disputes."

The case was referred to the RAK Public Prosecution which sought capital punishment. The lawsuit was then moved to the RAK Criminal Court which convicted the accused and sentenced him to death.
