Microsoft suffers with low 1.6pct market share in US

(MENAFN) Windows Phone (WP), Microsoft's crippled operating system for smartphones, witnessed its sales plunge to an all-time low in the US over last year's October-December timeframe.

According to the latest reports, Windows Phone market share in the US slipped down to 1.6 percent for December 2015. Just three months earlier in September that figure sat at 3.9 percent.

This not surprising at all, as not only have there been very few high-end WPs in the last two years, but carriers have also been reluctant to sell or promote those devices in the face of Apple's iPhone.

Moreover, WP users left in masses during the holiday season on the back of factors like expiring carrier contracts and tempting sales of rival devices that compounded general frustration with the OS.
