Amman: US will extend a total of $1.27 billion in economic aid and grants to Jordan this year Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said Sunday.

This came during Fakhoury's meeting on Sunday with Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Treasury Eric Meyer.

During the meeting they tackled King Abdullah II's recent visit to Washington during which Congress leaders announced that the US will extend a total of $1.27 billion in economic aid and grants to the Kingdom this year according to (Petra) news agency.

Fakhoury described the aid as a "unprecedented" saying that it underlines the US's understanding of economic challenges Jordan needs to grapple with.

About 64 percent of the aid will be allocated to the economic sector while 36 percent will go to army Fakhoury said.

The meeting dealt with a forthcoming donors conference to be held in London early February. The gathering will look into the Syrian refugees crisis particularly in Jordan and prospects for extending additional support to the refugees and affected communities.
