Jordan- Mercury dips below zero overnight as cold front tapers off


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Jan.27 (Petra) --A chilly cloudy to partly cloudy conditions are forecast Wednesday with temperatures dipping below zero as rain and snowfall starts to peter out this evening.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) snowfall are expected over the central and northern highlands while it will be heavy on the southern regions with northwesterly moderate winds .

Heavy downpours are expected to taper off as of midnight but it will remain chilly with ice formation across the country and variable winds.

On Thursday it will remain chilly and partly cloudy with fog covering the hilly areas and the Badia region. Frost formation is expected across the Kingdom including the Jordan Valley with easterly light winds.

A slight rise in temperatures is expected on Friday but it will remain cold in most regions with ice and frost formation across the country including the Jordan Valley. Winds will be southeasterly light the JMD forecaster said.

Temperatures are forecast to plummet below freezing overnight across the Kingdom dipping down to 2 degrees below zero in the capital while they will range between 2 to -2 degrees in the northern region at night.

Mercury levels in the central and southern parts will plunge well 3 degrees below zero while in Aqaba they will hit 16 degrees during daytime dropping down to 7 degrees at night.
