Iceland enjoys top green economy in 2015

Nearly 85pct of total energy supply in Iceland is derived from locally produced renewable energy sources, and so with utilization of geothermal power, it ranked as world's largest electricity producer per capita over 2015.

Additionally, what also helped the nation's ranking is the fact that its economy depends heavily on fishing, which still provides 40 percent of export earnings and employs 7 percent of the work force, hence little to no pollution.

Moreover, Iceland remains one of the most developed countries in the world, plus it has the 2nd highest quality of life let alone one of the lowest rates of income inequality and last but not least; it has a very small unemployment rate.

On a different note, Iceland's economy has been diversifying into manufacturing and service industries in the last decade, including software production, biotechnology, and finance, while services comprise close to 70 percent.
