Oman- Net Electricity Production rises by 13.2 percent in the Sultanate

The Sultanate's net electricity production by the end of November 2015 registered a growth of 13.2% year-on-year reaching 30296.9 GW/H from 26771.9 GW/H over the same period of 2014 according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Net electricity produced during November 2015 stood at 2354.2 GW/H.

Meanwhile the Sultanate's water production during the first 10 months of 2015 (November data has not been released) surged 3.9% to 279.16 million cu.m compared with 268.65million cu.m during the same period of 2014.

Significantly the highest growth in electricity generation was reported from the Governorates of North and South A'Sharqiyah which increased its net power production by 91.4% with output reaching 4854.3 GW/H during the January-November period from 2536.3 GW/H a year ago.

The Governorate of Al Wusta came second in terms of production growth with its net electricity output rising by 45.4% during the 11-month period last year to 330.2 GW/H as against 227.1GW/H over the comparable period of 2014.

Meanwhile the Governorate of Muscat remained the only governorate to record a fall in net electricity production during the period according to the NCSI data. Muscat posted a 6.8% drop in net electricity production during the period which slumped to 5082.2 GW/H compared with an output of 5454.4 GW/H last year.

Electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar increased by 9.8% to 2872.2 GW/H as of November end from 2615.7 GW/H in the corresponding period of 2014 while the growth was 9% in the Governorate of Musandam with output increasing to 326.9 GW/H compared with 299.9 GW/H in 2014.

The Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah witnessed a production increase of 13.5% taking the output to 1210.3 GW/H from 1066.1 GW/H in the prior year. The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah together with the Governorate of A'Dhahirah produced 15620.9 GW/H till November last year as against 14572.5 GW/GH in 2014 marking a growth of 7.2%.

The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units.

The Sultanate's gross electricity production during the first 11 months of 2015 witnessed a rise of 12.7% to touch 30877.3 GW/H compared with 27400.4 GW/H achieved during the prior year period.

Meanwhile the Governorate of Muscat raised its water production by a significant 74.9% to 129.09 million cu.m during the January-October 2015 from 73.80 million cu.m in 2014. The Governorate of Dhofar in contrast registered a fall of 8% in its water production during the period. Also during the period total quantity of water produced by all the other governorates taken together declined by 26.1% to 118.96 million cu.m.

Net electricity and water output during the whole of 2014 stood at 27812.1 GW/H and 323.15 million cu.m respectively.
