Pioneer Co. seals USD117m deal with Texas

(MENAFN) Pioneer Natural Resources Co., a US-based top shale oil producer has inked a USD117 million deal with the city of Odessa in Texas State to tap the treated excess from toilets and showers, to save water and cut costs for its wells.

This deal, which was mainly conducted to cut every unnecessary penny from company's operations, ultimately guarantees its access to millions of gallons of treated municipal wastewater each day, for use in nearby oilfields.

In more detail, water acquisition and transportation can be up to 10 percent of the cost of drilling a well, plus producers are also trying to lessen long-term risks of water scarcity in west Texas, where the top US oilfield is located.

Furthermore, Pioneer is the first oil and Gas Company to close a long-term wastewater supply contract with Odessa, which will eventually benefit from providing a steady stream of income and significantly cutting truck traffic.
