Kuwait- Turkey against Kurdish party participation in Geneva talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Turkey Monday expressed opposition to possible participation of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) a Kurdish party that maintains presence in some Syrian northern regions in the forthcoming Syrian conciliation conference.Deputy Prime Minister Muman Kurtulmus speaking at a news conference following a Cabinet session said "No-one agrees to participation of the Democratic Union Party or the so-called Islamic State or any other terrorist organization on side of the Syrian Coalition and the opposition at the Geneva Conference due on Friday." Turkey as a matter of fact stands on side of the Syrian opposition that unifies its ranks firmly against the regime he said clearly indicating that Ankara suspects that there are illicit links between the Kurdish group and the regime in Damascus.Kurtulmus expressed hope the Geneva conference would clear the decks for a transitional rule restoration of security stability and peace in Syria.The UN special envoy for Syria Saffan de Mistura announced earlier today that a new round of settlement negotiations would be held between the Syrian regime and the opposition in Geneva on Friday. The talks were originally set today but were delayed due to reported disagreements among stakeholders over delegations' formation. (end) rs.rk
