Israel arrests Palestinians accused of shooting soldier

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Three Palestinians accused of shooting at Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank were arrested by the Israeli military on Sunday.

"The operatives confessed to plotting and carrying out the shooting and surrendered the weapons used in the attack" the military said in a statement.

According to Ofir Gendelman a spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a Palestinian Authority intelligence officer was among those arrested for the Jan. 20 attack near the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem in which one soldier was injured.

More than 160 Palestinians have been killed -- along with 29 Israelis or foreigners -- in a months-long wave of violence that began in October of last year.

The violence has included a number of improvised attacks often involving knives or vehicles but there have also been several reported shootings in the West Bank.
