Just as it goes quiet Mohammed al Busaidy and Lina Khaled Abdelrahman emerge on from the darkness into light.

Busaidy and Lina are emcees at the main stage in Naseem Gardens where all the troupes from participating countries perform. The enthusiastic comperes amp up the thrill and keep the crowd entertained.

"There you have it people performers from Kazakhstan" announces Lina in Arabic. "That's right and we remind you that we have three countries performing today" says Busaidy in perfect sync before introducing the next show. Busaidy and Lina help set the stage for the event.

They appear on stage after each show for only a few minutes and keep the crowd engaged till the next troupe comes up. The six countries that are participating this year are Russia India Kazakhstan Turkey Lebanon and the Philippines.

Some Omani singers are also performing. The shows include dances clown shows magic shows and folk performances. Each day three to four countries perform up to three times each. Each performance lasts around 20 minutes. The duo waits backstage coordinating with the performers and organisers and never fail to strike the right note as they reach the stage to announce the next performance.

Though Busaidy is compering at the festival for the first time emceeing is not new to him. He has a company Jana'in Events where he is a DJ and hosts laser and light shows. Busaidy started emceeing at an event which saw awarding prizes to children at Sahwa Park in 2006 for qaranqasho during Ramadan.

Lina who is participating in the festival for the second time is host of a weekly programme on Sultanate of Oman Radio in Arabic called Medinet al Sughar or 'Children's City'. It's broadcast on Fridays from 10am-11am. She's been hosting it for four years and calls herself the 'youngest Arab radio personality'. "The method is different here at the festival. People can see me. On the radio it's indirect."
