India, France ink 16 documents on cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI Jan 24 (KUNA) -- The Indian-French Business Summit co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Francois Hollande concluded with the signing of 16 agreements and MoUs on cooperation in economy defense security nuclear energy and sustainable development.President Hollande is leading a large business delegation on a three-day visit to India where he will attend the 67th Republic Day on Tuesday January 26 as a guest of honor.The Indian government will pave the way for the French investors willing to enter the defense industry in the country Premier Modi told reporters in Chandigarh on Sunday following the signing ceremony which gathered more than 50 French business leaders.He noted that the French defense companies can play a great role in the advancement of India's defense industry.On his part President Hollande affirmed France's plan to sell 36 Rafale fighter planes to India noting that negotiations in this regard entered the final stage.He affirmed the significance of the agreements signed by the governments of both countries today in facilitating the commercial exchanges and joint ventures between private investors from both sides.Following the ceremony Hollande and Modi toured the Chandigarh tourist attractions including the Rock Garden the Capitol Complex and the Government Museum and Art Gallery amid tight security measures.The two sides are scheduled to hold further talks in New Delhi on cooperation in the defense and security cooperation in the wake of terrorist attacks on both countries.
