Washington to provide USD 1.27 bln aid to Amman- official


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Jan 24 (KUNA) -- The US intends to provide USD 1.27 billion to Jordan this year said a Jordanian official describing the aid as a "unprecedented" which reflects Washington's understanding of challenges facing Amman due to the Syrian crisis.This came in a statement by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury while receiving US deputy assistant of Treasury Secretary for International Affairs Eric Meyer who arrived in Jordan to discuss the US economic aid with officials.About 64 percent of the aid announced during the last visit of Jordan's King Abdullah II to Washington will be allocated to the economic sector while 36 percent will go to army Fakhoury said.He lauded the strategic partnership and distinguished relations between Amman and Washington on all arenas and ill all fields.On his part Meyer expressed his country's appreciation for Jordanian economic and political reforms and his understandings of burdens on Jordan in particular the flux of Syrian refugees who have an impact on host countries.The US economic aid to Jordan in 2011-15 has reached so far USD 2.7 billion about USD 1.5 billion was allocated to the state's budget.During this period the US has carried out some development projects worth USD one billion in the sectors of education health water energy tourism environment business and others.
