Chinese envoy highlights importance of Chinese president's visit to region


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Jan. 24 (Petra)--Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang stressed the importance of the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the region and said it has achieved its objectives.

In an interview with Jordan News Agency Petra the ambassador added that the visit will have a positive impact on China's relations with regional countries.

"China countries that President Jinping visited as well as all Middle East states should boost coordination to achieve stability develop the economy and improve peoples' living conditions" he added.

Ambassador Weifang added that the visit will further enhance Chinese-Arab strategic cooperation based on comprehensive cooperation and join development and support peace in the Middle East.

During President Jinping's visit to the Middle East China and Saudi Arabia agreed to upgrade their bilateral relations to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership.

China and Egypt also agreed to establish a "comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries also signed a number of business deals worth billions of dollars.

On Jordanian-Chinese ties Ambassador Weifang highlighted the importance of these relations and said China highly appreciates efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to further promote relations with his country.

"Despite world economic recession trade exchange between Jordan and China stood at $3.2 billion in the first 11 months of 2015 an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period of 2014" he added.

China the ambassador said attaches importance to the unique and important role played by Jordan in regional affairs adding that his country is determined to increase coordination with Jordan on regional and international issues to enhance peace stability and development in the Middle East.

The ambassador praised Jordan's role in hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with services noting that China offered and will continue offering humanitarian aid to the refugees.

On the Middle east peace process Ambassador Weifang voiced his country's support to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. "China also understands and supports Palestine's legitimate demands to join the international community as a state and backs new mechanisms to bring about peace in the region.

He said that China will provide this year 230 million yuan to Jordan Syria Lebanon Libya and Yemen in the form of humanitarian aid.
