Unclear political economic prospects overshadow WEF talks

DAVOS Switzerland Jan 24 (KUNA) -- The theme of the 46th World Economic Forum might have been the Fourth Industrial Revolution but the fogginess of the political and economic landscapes overshadowed its functions right until its last session on Saturday.
From the burden of Syria's refugee crisis on the Europeans to dwindling oil prices and global economies - some with old problems: Greece and some with new: China - to the reconciliation of old foes.
These were the highlights of the WEF which was launched with Jordan's Queen Rania urging companies to place their businesses in countries neighbouring Syria - which include Jordan - in order to provide job opportunities for the refugees.
This would offer that particular community hope for the future and would help them be more self-sufficient she argued.
A reoccurring theme on Syria was that leaders had agreed the link between the spread of terrorism and the limited support handed to the youth matched with the lack of a clear vision that ensures secure prospects.
They also agreed however that any apparent resolve of the conflict would be left to politicians.
Meanwhile with the most severe slump to have affected oil prices for over 10 years global markets have reacted in the minus - the most significant of which saw growth dropping considerably in China.
Analysts have argued however that as the world's second largest economy continues to implement economic reforms growth might slow down slightly yet will still hover around a reasonable rate.
On another positive note as all was not gloom with Iran coming to the fore once again after signing a deal that put its nuclear issue to bed and reconciliation talks reached between the two sides of the Cypriot feud - Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots. (end) ta.sd
