(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Jan.24 (Petra) ---The polar front centered over Syria is forecast to deepen on Sunday causing temperatures to dip well below their annual average and bringing heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightening and snow across the Kingdom.
According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) snow is expected to fall over the hilly areas in the northern and southern regions mainly on elevations of 1000m above sea level.
Brisk westerly to northwesterly gusty winds with speeds reaching 60-70 Km per hour are expected during the night with snowfall on areas 900m above sea level.
Colder polar winds are expected to continue on Monday; therefore extremely cold and cloudy weather is forecast across the Kingdom with heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightening. Snowfall is also expected on areas 800m above sea level with northwesterly gusty winds the JMD added.
Maximum temperatures in the capital for today are expected to reach 6 degrees Celsius dropping to 2 degrees at night in the northern regions they will range between a high of 3 degrees and a low of 1 degree at night JMD forecaster said.
Daytime temperatures in the central and southern regions will range between a high of 7 degrees Celsius dropping down to 2 degrees below zero while mercury levels in the Gulf of Aqaba will hit 15 degrees Celsius dropping down to 7 at night.
