Autocross Championship 2016: Shaibani duo on podium in UAE

Oman's Shaibani brothers racers Mazin and Nabeel claimed podium positions at the recently-concluded first round of the UAE Autocross Championship 2016 in Sharjah.

Organised by Emirates Motorsport Club the event witnessed a total of 18 drivers from UAE Oman Lebanon Jordan and Egypt vie for the top honours. The Omani delegation comprised four drivers with the other two - Laith al Mawali and Wail al Shaibani - making their debut in the competition. Mazin finished runner-up in the all-wheel drive (AWD) race class in his Mitsubishi Evo 8 while Nabeel came third in the same category. Experienced driver Michel Saleh of Lebanon took the top spot. Wail driving a Mitsubishi Evo 10 took part in the modified AWD class and finished tenth overall while Laith in his Mitsubishi Evo 4 was 14th in the AWD class.After the first round UAE's Mohammad Chehab tops the overall standings with 25 points and is followed by his countrymate Mohammed Tarifi with 18. Another UAE driver Samer Malak is third with 15 while Saleh is fourth with 12. Mazin is fifth with ten points and Nabeel is a place behind with eight points. Wail is ninth with two and Mawali also opened his account and is placed 13th with one point. The second round will be held on February 19.
