Masdar Unveils 2015 Sustainability Report


(MENAFNEditorial) 23 January 2015 Abu Dhabi UAE – Masdar has released its 2015 Sustainability Report documenting the renewable energy company’s sustainability milestones in the period October 2014 to September 2015. Masdar developed the report using the internationally recognised sustainability reporting framework from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in accordance with the latest GRI G4 guidelines. The report discloses a wide variety of sustainability indicators ranging from economic and environmental data to labour practices and employment information.

Commenting on the release of the report Dr Nawal Al-Hosany Director of Sustainability at Masdar said: “Our annual report is an important tool to ensure our activities as a company at the forefront of sustainable development are fully transparent to our stakeholders and to the wider community. I am proud of the progress that was achieved in the last reporting period while our operations have continued to expand.”

Report Fast Facts During Reporting Period

1.Economic Development
•64 percent increase in registered companies in Masdar Free Zone (MFZ) 627 visas processed by Masdar City One-Stop Shop for MFZ tenants
•63 percent of total spend distributed to local businesses
•2962 gigawatt hours of total renewable energy produced

2.Environmental
•46513 megawatt hours of energy use in Masdar City operations
•71135 cubic meters of water used in Masdar City operations
•Total 1.39 million tonnes of carbon displaced by Masdar-involved renewable energy projects
•33000 passengers using Masdar City’s personal rapid transport (PRT) system

3.Workforce
•203 employees of which 30% were female
•44% emiratisation of corporate positions
•1.8m man-hours without a lost time injury on Masdar City Construction Site
