Iran seeks to push economic trade volume with China to USD600 bln- Rouhani

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN Jan 23 (KUNA) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Saturday his country is looking forward to pushing to USD 600 billion the tune of economic commercial and investment cooperation with China in the coming decade.The two sides share the desire to conclude a document on a comprehensive long-term strategic partnership covering cooperation in various fields in the coming 25 years he said.President Rouhani made the comments at a joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping after the conclusion of 17 documents on cooperation.He noted that the summit talks with the Chinese leader covered financial and banking cooperation as well as the bilateral ties in the energy investment scientific technological cultural tourism industrial security and defense realms.The two sides discussed the growing menace of extremism terrorism in the Middle East and ways to support the countries hit by it such as Afghanistan Iraq Syria and Yemen the Iranian president revealed.He welcomed as historic President Xi's first visit to Iran saying it would give momentum to the friendly relationship between the two countries.On his part the Chinese President said his visit aimed to open new horizons for cooperation with Iran which is as a major trade partner of China in the Middle East.The close relationship with Iran serves the mutual interests and contribute to peace and stability in the region and the world at large he pointed out.President Xi added that "the fruitful and constructive talks" with the Iranian leaders led to important agreements in various fields of the mutually-beneficial cooperation.Both sides agreed to continue consultation on a comprehensive strategic partnership that will pave the way for more joint investment and strengthen the political relationship he noted.The talks led to agreement on the framework initiative to build the "Belt and Road" also known as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road the Chinese leader went on.The initiative first unveiled by President Xi in September 2013 is a development strategy that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries of Eurasia; it consists of two main components - the land-based Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) and oceangoing Maritime Silk Road (MSR).The Chinese side undertook to finance the necessary network of roads railways and industrial cities Xi added highlighting the need of boosting cooperation with Iran in the regional and international issues whether on the bilateral level or within the multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).President Xi arrived here on Friday night leading a high-level delegation as part of a trip in the Middle East; it is the first by a Chinese leader to Iran in the last 14 years.
