Spanish Press Mocks Morocco's National Football Team

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The Spanish press is mocking the extravagance of the Moroccan national football team in the African Cup of Nations for local players known as CHAN which is taking place in Rwanda.

According to Spain's Mundo Deportivo the financial and logistical means the Moroccan Football Federation has put at the disposal of the Moroccan team are 'ridiculous' and more in-line with the needs of 'Hollywood celebrities' than football players.

Spanish media reported that the Moroccan Football Federation pampered its players as if they were sure to win the African Championship when in fact they are one match away from being eliminated.

According to the same source the Atlas Lions were given four tons of food a private chef flown from Morocco a luxury jet and they booked all of the rooms at a Kigali hotel.

The luxuries demanded by Moroccan players have stirred controversy especially because the team's standing in the competition does not justify such extravagances.

The Moroccan team started the tournament with a disappointing draw with Gabon in their opening match.

Moroccan fans hoped to see their team play its best football but the Atlas Lions lost their second match to Ivory Coast (0-1)on Wednesdayat Stade Amahoro in the Rwandan capital.

The final Group A matches will be playedon Sunday. Morocco will play Rwanda and Ivory Coast will face Gabon.

The odds of Morocco qualifying to the second round are nearly impossible. They will have to defeat Rwanda the host nation by at least two goals and the Ivory Coast must lose to Gabon.

'If the Moroccan selection does not win the last game it will be automatically eliminated and will have to return with the plane the cook and tons of uneaten food' the Mundo Deportivo said with an overtone of sarcasm.
