Tunisian President warns saboteurs have infiltrated protestors


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Tunisian President Beji Gaid Essebsi on Friday warned his nation against what he labelled as "malicious" elements seeking to aggravate security deterioration in the country amid wide-scale protests stressing government forces would act firmly against saboteurs."These illicit hands have sneaked among the protests taking place in several regions in Tunisia with support from known licensed and unlicensed parties" the president said in an address to his nation aired on television channels tonight.He warned that terrorist organizations namely the so-called Islamic States (IS) plotting against Tunisia from neighboring Libya were seeking to exploit the demonstrations to serve their own agendas.Curfew will be enforced "with utter flexibility as well as with utmost firmness" as of tonight the president confirmed assuring the people that the army and the security forces will protect them and safeguard private and public institutions.President Essebsi expressed confidence that the security authorities "would bring the situation under control and Tunisia would press ahead with the democratic process." Tunisian Ministry of Interior announced earlier today that it was enforcing a night-long curfew throughout the country following a wave of violent clashes between government forces and activists.Protestors mostly demanding jobs in some regions turned violent ransacking and damaging stores banks and state security buildings.The unrest is viewed as the most serious since the 2011 revolution triggered with popular protests over social and living demands and leading to ouster of Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali's regime.
