Qatar- PM opens new Counter Cybercrime Centre HQ

Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani with officers during the inauguration of the operations control and security monitoring branch and the new headquarters of the Counter Cybercrime Centre at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation yesterday.

Doha: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani opened the operations control and security monitoring branch and the new headquarters of the Counter Cybercrime Centre at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

After the inauguration the Premier toured the branch and the centre.

He was briefed by officials on the work mechanism of the branch and services it offers to facilitate investigation by security patrols.

The services include providing security patrols with data and intelligence to help them quickly capture criminals and prevent crimes.

The branch is the liaison point for security patrols which are equipped with modern security techniques through which patrol personnel are deployed in specific locations to secure a geographical area.

The centre is the most modern in the region in terms of applying state-of-the-art techniques and equipment to deal with cybercrimes. It investigates and gathers evidence in cases of cybercrimes. It also checks electronic devices and prepares technical reports based on directives of public prosecution. It works with the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior to increase community awareness about the dangers of cybercrimes and how to avoid them.

Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi Director-General Public Security and directors of various departments of the ministry were also present at the opening ceremony.
