Pentagon agrees to sell Iraq weapons worth USD2 billion


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington Jan.21 (Petra) --The US Department of Defense the "Pentagon" said that the government had agreed to sell Iraq smart bombs and missiles IM -9 M Sidewinder and other ammunition for use in its fleet consisting of 36 fighter F-16 in a deal worth up to nearly $1.95 billion.

The Security Cooperation Agency of the Pentagon said it notified the Congress on January 15 about the proposed deal to Iraq that is fighting to regain land seized by the Daesh terror group.

The agency added that the proposed transaction also includes technical support operations rules maintenance work to establish of about 400 American personnel in Iraq until 2020 .

By granting Iraq additional weapons the agreement will contribute to the strengthening of security US national ammunition and technical services needed to maintain the combat capability of the fleet of fighter jets F-16 it added.
