Ukraine, Russia relations slip further amid latest ban

(MENAFN) In Ukraine's most recent round of trade row with Moscow, which ignited after Kiev entered a landmark free trade agreement with the EU, the Eastern-Europe nation has widened its prohibition on Russian-made goods.

The Ukrainian government stated that the embargo will mainly apply to food products, as more than 70 kinds of goods produced in Russia were added to the existing ban list that covered 43 items; food items and other commodities.

Moscow has suspended its free trade agreement with Ukraine and banned food imports from the neighbor to protect its market from European re-export, ever since the trade regime between Kiev and the EU came into force.

Furthermore, both countries have always had disputes in a way or another over the years, which is mainly on political basis, with the latest being the clash over the Crimean peninsula which Russia annexed in 2014.
