Doha: Ooredoo has congratulated the winners of the regional finals of the 3rd Arab Mobile Challenge at a ceremony in Algiers Algeria earlier this month.

Launched in 2013 the challenge enables teams of up to six under 35 to develop mobile apps to make a difference across their communities.

As a founder and key partner of the challenge Ooredoo participated in the regional final which saw 24 teams present app designs and business plans to a jury of industry experts and professionals.

Two teams received the prize of financial support for their apps to bring them to market -- ‘Visiongeeks’ developers from Sudan and ‘Bookr’ from Kuwait.

Five winning teams advanced to compete at the Global Mobile Challenge during GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

These teams were the developers of ‘Synoos’ (Algeria); ‘Doha Guide’ (Qatar); ‘My U Team’ (Kuwait); ‘Gravilog’ (Palestine); and ‘Raye7’ (Egypt).

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani Group CEO Ooredoo said: “Ooredoo is a long-term partner of the challenge and we continue to be impressed by the quality of the entries and the commitment of young developers looking to build these applications. Ooredoo is working hard to encourage the creation of more locally-relevant content and applications because we believe they can have a real impact on the lives of people across our footprint.”

Organised by Imtiaz Middle East over 20 teams from various countries participated in the regional final including teams from Algeria Qatar Tunisia Lebanon Palestine Kuwait Jordan Egypt Oman and Sudan.

Each presented idea for an app that could have a positive impact on their communities including concepts to address specific issues relating to education healthcare entrepreneurship employability and entertainment.

Ooredoo supports incubation activities and entrepreneurial programmes across its footprint including Ooredoo’s tStart and iStartprogrammes (Algeria); Start-up Factory (Tunisia); Ooredoo Indosat’s Ideabox (Indonesia); and the ‘Digital and Beyond’ incubator at the Qatar Business Incubation Centre.
