Three gangs of robbers caught in Riyadh drive
(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: Riyadh police arrested 16 people belonging to three gangs which were involved in a spate of burglaries auto thefts and stealing building materials.
According to police the implementation of anti-theft programs was carried out on a directive from Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar who is keen on flushing out criminals from the capital. The first gang of seven Saudi men in their twenties was apprehended for committing more than 30 crimes in the city. Their offenses included robbing people of their valuables at knifepoint.
The second group comprising four Saudis and a Bangladeshi national was caught for taking money from people after intimidating them with armed weapons.
The suspects in their thirties and forties mainly concentrated on construction sites where large number of workers were seen.
A Syrian and three Chadians formed the third gang which stole large sums of money from automotive workshops in industrial areas. A police officer said this group would visit auto workshops in the west of the capital and rob auto technicians who had substantial sums of money from auto repairs.
Police said they would continue such operations to cleanse the city of such elements. They urged residents and citizens to cooperate with them and bring such incidents to their notice for necessary action.
