UN concerned over postpone of Libya's national government


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA Jan 18 (KUNA) -- The UN expressed disappointment over the decision of the Libya's Presidency Council to postpone the formation of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to 48 hours beyond the deadline set by the Libyan Political Agreement.In a statement issued late Sunday the UN urged the council to respect the newly-set date for the formation. The GNA is a step towards achieving economic and political stability in the country as well as a mean of facing security and humanitarian challenges it added.Meanwhile the statement mentioned the recent attacks of the so-called Islamic State (IS) on key bodies in Sidra Ras Lanuf and Benghazi noting that Libyan parties must unite in fighting all forms of terrorism.GNA must benefit from armed groups currently fighting IS and other terrorist organizations in the country while also exert efforts to provide army and the police division with neccessary training and equipment to safeguard Libya's security the UN said.(end) ta.ag
