GCC Supreme Council Consultative Authority building opens in Muscat

The building of the GCC Supreme Council Consultative Authority which was funded by the Omani government to act as key player in enhancing GCC joint work opened on Sunday under the auspices of Dr Abdulatif bin Rashid al Zayani GCC Secretary General.

The building spread over more than 15000sq m has a main auditorium with a unique structural design two sub-auditoriums for meetings four minor meeting halls for committee meetings and two training auditoriums in addition to the facilities annexed to the building.

It also includes offices for officials advisors employees of the authority which is deemed as one of the diplomatic missions in the sultanate.

The guest of honour expressed thanks and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said the Omani government and people for efforts done to enhance cooperation among GCC countries.

He hailed the remarkable Renaissance and the comprehensive development witnessed by Oman under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The GCC Secretary General said that GCC Supreme Council's decision at its eighth session held in Kuwait in December 1997 on the establishment of the advisory authority came from the convictions of their majesties and highnesses the leaders of GCC countries and their keenness to achieve comprehensive development enhance Gulf integration and protect the region's security and stability.

Mubarak bin Ali al Khatir chairman of the GCC Supreme Council Consultative Authority said that GCC leaders in view of international changes and their regional impact and anticipating for the future of GCC the Supreme Council decided at its 23rd session in Doha to have a permanent headquarters in Muscat which the government of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said took the responsibility of providing and supplying it with the necessary requirements.

In his speech Khatir reviewed the ideas and insights provided by the authority since its inception in 1997.

The opening ceremony was attended by H E Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi Secretary General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ambassadors of the GCC countries heads of departments chairman of the 18th session of authority and guests of the GCC Secretariat General.
