Jordan lauds GCC countries' support


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Jan 17 (KUNA) -- Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs and government spokesman Mohammed Al Moman has commended GCC member states' support for his country especially a USD-five-million grant provided by the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND).This came during a news conference held at the headquarters of Jordan's premiership on Sunday. Kuwait Saudi Arabia Qatar and the UAE announced a grant worth USD five billion for 2012-17 to finance development projects across Jordan.On crisis of the Syrian refugees he said there are some 16000 refugees stranded on the Jordanian border adding it was reported that some members of the so-called Islamic State "are living among these refugees." He noted that his country adopts the policy of open borders and at the same time it takes security measures into consideration.Jordan receives daily up to 100 Syrian refugees mainly women children patients and elderly people he said.Concerning the war in Yemen the minister said Amman is part of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia that is seeking to restore legitimacy in that Arab country.Asked about Jordan's stance towards Iran's nuclear file he expressed his hope that lifting sanctions imposed on Iran would be a step which contributes to achieving stability in the region.He also hoped that Iran wouldn't interfere in internal affairs of other countries.According to official data Jordan is hosting about 1.4 million Syrian refugees.
