Turkey- Kldarolu re elected as CHP eyes new era with new faces


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Kemal Klçdarolu leader of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) was re-elected to the party chairmanship for a fourth consecutive term at his social democrats’ convention over the weekend with a goal to renew the party’s management with more new young faces.

Klçdarolu received votes from 990 delegates out of 1238 in the election where ran alone as his sole contender zmir deputy Mustafa Balbay failed to garner the required number of signatures for candidacy.

“We’ll open a new page in Turkey. We’ll bring democracy and freedoms. We’ll fight unemployment. We will be the party of the poor waifs and strays; we’ll defend their rights” Klçdarolu said after his re-election to the leadership was announced late Jan. 16.

These 1238 delegates were subject to elect the 60-seat Party Assembly the highest decision-making body of the CHP from which Klçdarolu picks his closest aides for the Central Decision-Making Council (MYK). Around 700 party members applied to run for the Party Assembly as Klçdarolu encouraged more young people and women to race for a seat in the assembly.
