Qatar Charity brings succour to besieged Syrian town


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) As part of an ongoing effort to deliver aid to the besieged Syrian town of Madaya Qatar Charity (QC) has managed to distribute food rations to the starving residents of the town in co-operation with Al Rahma International Charity.
QC aid convoy will be followed by other relief convoys during the coming period. QC opened the doors even wider for donations and contributions to Madaya as part of the Syrian campaign “Syria Harsh Winter”.
Aid materials included prepared food such as wheat lentils chickpeas beans semolina sugar corn and rice in addition to meals and fresh meat.
QC has appealed to Qatari philanthropists and residents to redouble their donations and support Syrians who are facing hunger and death in the besieged town of Madaya.
Ready-to-eat meals can be donated to the residents of Madaya via SMS. Individuals can send the word “Madaya” to the number 92642 to donate QR100 to the number 92428 to donate QR500 to 92429 to donate QR1000 or they can contact the hotline of Qatar Charity 44667711.
The reports of the international humanitarian organisations indicate that the majority of the deceased in the town were elderly people and infants due to the acute shortage of food particularly milk. Thousands of Madaya residents and residents of the western countryside of Damascus including “Zabadani” and “Baqin” are facing death due to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the severely cold winter.
QC has launched its campaign “Syria ...Harsh Winter “ beginning from Rihaniyya area along the Turkish border in order to provide warm kits for the displaced in Syria and refugees in southern Turkey. The first batch of the campaign included more than 250000 pieces that were distributed on 508000 people.
QC delegation distributed 2000 food baskets to 10000 Syrian refugees in Rihaniyya city near the Syrian borders.
QC plays a central role to alleviate the suffering of refugees and displaced people in Lebanon. About 10000 Syrian refugees at the Lebanese city of Arsal have benefited from the relief project carried out by Qatar Charity.
The project included distributing food baskets for 3 months in favor of 1650 families living in camps such as Kuwait Al Khair Yassar Idlib Al Noor Al Kalamoon housing Al Bonian Al sabai Al Zaeem and Al Rahma .
QC has distributed 1825 essential materials to 15 Syrian refugees’ camps in Lebanon within “Life’s Backbone” project at a cost of QR1825000. This project provided assistance for 8400 Syrian refugees in Lebanon as part of QC efforts to help Syrian refuges.

The campaign has also designated the hotline number 44667711 to donate and to respond to inquiries related to it.
As part of its efforts to support the health sector Qatar Charity has expanded “Aldaraj” Health Centre in Gaza. This project aims to establish a health center that could prevent the spread of infectious diseases and epidemics provide the needy groups with basic health services and raise health awareness.
QC has funded this project at a cost of QR500000 as part of its efforts to help the Palestinian people and reduce their suffering caused by the Israeli occupation’s cruel practices.

QC to open new camp

Qatar Charity (QC) has announced the opening of a new camp for the displaced Syrians on the Turkish-Syrian border which includes 500 tents. QC has distributed a similar number of tents to the affected families in rural areas of Hama Aleppo and Latakia as part of its winter campaign in Syria.
In a press statement yesterday QC said that the total beneficiaries of these tents have reached more than 6000 displaced Syrians.
Faisal Rashid al-Fehaidh Executive Director Operations Qatar Charity said: “The establishment of the camp on the Turkish-Syrian border and the distribution of tents will help displaced Syrians face the winter and provide warmth for the affected families.”
