RAF selects over 200 from 27 countries for scholarships

DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has selected over 200 students from 27 Arab and Islamic countries for scholarships to pursue higher education at universities in Malaysia.

RAF will earmark QR20m from its endowment fund annually to give scholarships to help students realise their dreams of pursuing higher studies in top varsities of the world.

Details of ‘Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Scholarships for University Education’ were given by senior officials at a press conference.

“The first batch of more than 200 students has been selected from some of the most deserving countries including Syria Yemen and Palestine among other Arab and Islamic countries facing humanitarian crises” said Hasan bin Hasan Al Sulayti Supervisor-General Scholarship Programme.

RAF will sign contracts with top universities in Malaysia to ensure admission for its students” he added.

Malaysia was selected because its universities are providing excellent education and are accredited internationally.

The country is peaceful the people are good and educated and the visa and residency procedures are easy said Al Sulayti.

Scholarships will be granted to 50 students for bachelor’s degree courses 40 for master’s and 10 for PhD said Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim CEO RAF.

“The candidate should be unable to finance his studies and should have a good character and should keen to serve the community.”

The scholarships are for courses including law economy international relations psychology mass communications social sciences liaison (public organisational and individual) social development projects management and information and technology said Ibrahim.

Once admitted to a programme a student will not be allowed to change his specialisation.

The grade point average (GPA) of a student should not be less than 80 percent.

Study should not be discontinued without any genuine reason and discontinuation should not be for more than two semesters.

The scholarships also aim to provide a six-month refresher’s course in English language tuition fees of the university throughout study air ticket from and to their home countries suitable lodging and food transport and daily personal expenses.
