MANAMA 17th January 2016 (WAM) -- The Bahraini Coast Guard Commander has announced that a Bahraini dhow was targeted in a piracy attack outside of the Kingdom's regional waters that led to the death of an Asian sailor.

Bahrain News Agency quoted the Coast Guard Commander as saying that the Public Prosecution was notified upon the arrival of the dhow yesterday morning at a maritime checkpoint near Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman bridge in the Hidd area. He said that concerned GCC authorities were notified for necessary and precautionary measures.

He urged all mariners to stick to the proper fishing areas in Bahrain's territories and avoid crossing maritime borders. They should follow any instructions from the Coast Guards in this respect for their safety and to also avoid legal measures being taken against them.
